Somethings amiss...

This weekend, my better half and I went to a fancy schmancy restaurant for a little celebratory anniversary. I had been wanting to give this place a try for some time but wanted to wait for the special occasion.
We got there and were seated promptly. The better half ordered a glass of wine. I ordered a brew. The waitress was prompt and offered the specials of the evening as we perused our menus. We quickly decided that we were both in the mood for...Beef, it's what's for dinner.
We both ordered basically the same dinner. A six ounce filet that our waitress said was "aged 21 days." Whatever that means. We both like our steaks cooked MEDIUM. Soooooo, we placed our order and within 20 minutes we had our entree.
The beautiful one took the first bite and she made a little noise that I took to mean succulent. And she said it was.
I couldn't wait. I cut into mine and looked down. No pink. No red. Nothing but brown charred meat. The look on my face said everything. The waitress noticed and stepped forward.
"How is it?" she asked. "Well, it's ok," I replied, "but it definitely doesn't look like my wifes medium."
"Here, let us take care of that," she said as she picked up my plate.
I explained that I really have never done this before and I have heard the horror stories about what happens to the customers food if they were to send it back to the kitchen. Hey, I've read Anthony Bourdain.
"I've worked at other restaurants where I wouldn't recommend returning your food and it isn't like that here," she said, "Our chef runs a small kitchen and prides himself on getting it right."
Obviously, my next question was to ask her where she used to work.
"Outback Steakhouse."
Duly noted.
Aaaannnyway, ten minutes later and my new steak arrived. I cut into it and looked inside.
This time it had the look of uncooked sashimi at the sushi bar.
By this time, the manager had come over to check on us and offer us a free dessert for the problem.
I couldn't take it. There was no way that I was going to be able to even take one bite of this slab of meat.
"Well, it doesn't look like my wife's medium steak."
"I'm sorry, it doesn't," the manager said.
"Look, i have never sent food back to the kitchen. I'm not that guy that complains. But honestly, this is so rare that I won't be able to eat it."
Graciously, the manager took it back. We thought he would just put it on the grill for a few minutes. fifteen minutes passed and here he comes with a completely new steak.
This time, it was just right. Succulent.
And the free dessert was just as good.
Even though I had to order three steaks in one night, we will gladly go back.
And we will never complain at Outback.

Mr. Belding still rocks.

The best part of this video is near the end when all these girls line up to give Dennis Haskins aka Mr. Belding from Saved by the Bell a hug. The guy from Metal Skool comes correct.

Classic.

I can't believe this made it on television back when The Gong Show was on nationally broadcast television. I'm even more surprised that it made on tv again, this time on the game show network. This might be NSFW.

Retro Monday.

Welcome to Retro Monday. Nope, this ain't gonna be like VH1 "I love the 80's". This is going to be info, arts, and music that captivated our hearts from ages 12-26. Starting out is a band that brings memories of cruising the dirt roads of the county in my chevy silverado back in 1991. This is one of those bands that you might have never heard of but should have. This is The Four Horsemen. The song is Tired Wings. This band is just good ol' boy heavy southern rock. You can only find this on ebay now. I still have the cassette. Just about burned a hole in my Alpine speakers I got at "the wal-marts" back in the day. These guys kick. Enjoy.

Big Fish Friday.

Now that is a mighty big fish.

Sadness among the devastation.

These pictures were taken the day after the tornado struck Clinton, AR on Feb. 5, 2008. Some pictures are of the boat factory. Others are of what used to be the clubhouse at the golf course. Many pictures were taken as I drove down "Scenic 65". This is Hwy 65 that takes you through the town of Clinton. It was called "scenic" because of the beauty of the trees in the fall foliage. Those trees are now gone. Many homes were destroyed and some that still stand are merely frames of what used to be a home.
All kinds of stories and rumors are being told.
Someone told me that they found the Clinton Public Library sign in a tree in Mountain View (a town about 45 minutes away.)
Someone else told me they are still finding boats in Shirley, AR (about 20 min drive from Clinton) that came from the boat factory that you see the remains of the the photos attached. Who knows?
I do know this: Several good people up there don't have homes anymore. Nothing. Many have lost alot of their belongings. Three people lost their lives. In the same breath, there are many fortunate people who still have their families, friends, and homes (including me!) The tornado came, destroyed, and left. What it left was plenty of human spirit that is there right now doing what they can to help out those in need. This little town will never look the same.

Livin' the life I love. Lovin' the life I live.

James Blood Ulmer. Saw him last night at Hendrix College. Touring guitarst Vernon Reid was his bad ass usual self. You might remember him from his days in Living Colour and the opening riff of "Cult of personality."
It was good just to witness a blues legend. James is big sumbitch. Great spooky sounding blues guitar sound. He told some jokes but nobody could really understand him. I'm assuming they were jokes. He laughed after he spoke. Maybe he was laughing at all the middle class white folks diggin' on the music he was making. Hey, it was a free concert. Furthermore, it began at 7:30 pm. We were in bed by 10:00 pm. Geez, I'm getting old.
Check him out in the above video performing at Radio City Music Hall.
